Who we are

This website is run by the Al-Hijra Islamic Education Trust (“Al-Hijra”, “we”, “us”), 40 Bracken Rd, Paparangi, Wellington 6037, New Zealand. We handle personal information in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

What we collect and why

Contact enquiry form

Your name, email address, optional phone number, the type of enquiry and your message. We use this only to reply to your enquiry.

Student registration form

Parent or guardian details (name, relationship, email, mobile number and optional address); student details (name, date of birth and optionally gender and current school); Islamic education background; preferred programme, group and class time; an emergency contact; optional medical, allergy, learning and support information; and your consent choices, including photo and media consent. We use this to review the application, place the student in a class, contact you, and look after the student’s safety and wellbeing in class.

Medical, allergy, learning and support information is optional. Please share only what you are comfortable with and what would help us look after the student.

Where a form is completed for a child, it should be completed by a parent or legal guardian.

How your form is handled

When you submit a form, it is sent by email to the Al-Hijra team. We do not use the information for marketing and we do not sell it. We share it only with the people at Al-Hijra who need it to deal with your enquiry or registration, and we do not share it with anyone else unless the law requires it.

To protect the website from spam and misuse, the server keeps a security log of the date and time, the form type, the outcome and a one-way hashed (scrambled) version of your IP address. The log does not contain your message or form answers. We also temporarily keep short-lived records to limit repeated submissions.

Cookies, analytics and third parties

This website does not use advertising cookies and does not currently use analytics or tracking cookies.

The Contact page can show a Google Maps map. The map only loads if you choose “Show map”, and it then connects to Google. Links to other websites, such as Quran.com, Facebook or the Newlands Islamic Centre prayer timetable, are provided for your convenience; those sites have their own privacy policies.

How long we keep information

We keep enquiries and registrations for as long as we need them to deal with your request and to run our classes, and then delete them when they are no longer needed.

Keeping information safe

The website uses HTTPS so that information sent between your browser and our server is encrypted, and form submissions are checked and limited to reduce abuse. No website or email system can be guaranteed to be completely secure, so please avoid sending sensitive details you do not need to share.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it. To do so, please contact us or call +64 22 082 8101. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
